The technology region of Aachen is famous for being one of the leading centers of automotive technology in Europe. Top research centers like the RWTH Aachen University, the University of Applied Sciences Aachen, the Frauenhofer-Institutes and numerous R&D companies form together a top cluster, which can provide all necessary development steps within automotive production.

 

The “automotive innovation center” (aic) offers with its cooperation a direct and easy contact to the institutes of the RWTH Aachen University and the University of Applied Sciences Aachen.

 

The objective is to find common solutions in inter-disciplinary problem areas of the automotive industry, in particular in the automotive electronics.

 

The aic is managed by an experienced and competent expert of the automotive industry.

The automotive innovation center (aic) is an interdisciplinary cooperation between institutes of the RWTH Aachen University and the University of Applied Sciences Aachen. Six professors, with a total of about 500 employees in six different chairs, bring together their experiences and their know-how in the area automotive electronics.
Currently, the following institutes are involved:

 

  • The institute of Control Engineering (IRT)
  • The institute of Automotive Engineering (ika/fka)
  • The institute for Combustion Engines (vka)
  • The chair of Computer Science XI in Embedded Systems Software
  • The institute for Power Electronics and Electrical Drives (ISEA)
  • The chair of Airplane Electronics and Electricals (FEE)


The following automotive R&D centers are involved:

  • fka - Innovative Vehicle Attribute Engineering
  • FEV - Motor Engineering


aic is a business unit of the Aachen regional development agency AGIT mbH. aic coordinates the contact between research and industry and provides a qualified technology transfer with “one face to the customer”
